FILMING the PILOT!: These 6 'New Images' are pictures of the filming of the pilot on Set 11/17/01. Much more to come in a few days!!

New Image:The crew filming the first sequences.

LIGHTING COMPLETE!: These 'New Images' are pictures of the recently added interior lighting.

New Image:Shows the newly installed LEDs on top of the lower antenna.

New Image:Shows the newly installed LEDs through the 'clear' lower antenna, also note the fitting for the long antenna leads.

New Image:Close up of interior lighting. Shows the 'blue' tint that all the Living Quarter windows will have. NOTE the lighted LEDs on the lower saucer/antenna. The dark backlight shadows will disapper once the paint goes on.

New Image:Wider view of the lighted model before painting.

New Image:Another wide view of the lighted model before painting.

INITIAL CONSTRUCTION:
Image:shows the main living area, and the 'cutouts' meant to derive shadows from the lighting on the windows. The top one also shows the cutouts for the windows of the living and control decks.

Image: shows everything stacked up, bottom to top. Keep in mind, the living area windows are held together with blue masking tape for the picture, and the tower is just 'resting' on the saucer.

Image: shows the Living area cutouts, and some decks stacked, including the finished 'control deck' and the middle one has some diffuser for the 'living area deck'.

UPDATE: 4/10/02 - I have been creating the bridge displays for the new set. I have added some links to these new images below. They will be used in the newsroom and other sets, showing the status of the station, power, comm, etc... The images are distorted a bit from the conversion to .pdf.

UPDATE: 3/15/02 - A new round of filming the model happened on 3/7 in Denver, CO at the AT&T Digital Media Center. We filmed new shots, angles and lighting. The show is progressing well, and KPAL in L.A. has ordered 3 episodes. I'll be posting pictures within the next couple weeks. We plan to 'Premiere' a trailer of OB-1 at the StarFest convention in Denver on Sat. April 20, 2002.

11/21/01 - The first round of filming for the pilot ocurred on 11/16 - 11/18, 2001. We shot the OB-1 Model against the Green Screen on 11/16. The cast and crew filmed 10 scenes on 11/17 and 11/18. This was an awesome experience and sight. The set was incredible, and the model held up to shooting very well. So browse this page and enjoy a 'First Look' at the Production of OB-1!

UPDATE (11/19/01): Added the 6 "new images" on the left. I'll be adding much more soon, but this is all I had time to post tonight.

UPDATE (9/16/01): Added the "new images" on the left. Construction is proceeding well. All Major construction is now complete. I just wired up the four Red L.E.D.s that will be equal distant around the top of the lower antenna. These will either be steady on or blink (like a satellite dish). The model's stand is also completed, made entirely out of steel. This week I'll be doing final sanding, and begin the first phase of painting.

UPDATE (8/1/01): The pictures on the left show the current status of the model. Basic construction is now complete. I just have to finish running some of the electrical wiring, and then I can begin gluing the decks together, and begin painting. The plan is to have the model completed by the first week of September, so we are getting close.

This has been one of the most challenging and fun projects I have had a chance to work on. I have been building the station from scratch, using original designs from famed Star Trek Artist Andrew Probert. We went through many reviews and changes to the original design, and finally came up with this one. Once the producer, AJ Wedding, Andrew and I had the design down, I drafted up the deck layers and came up with all the major pieces I would need. I then took this drawing to our local plastic fabrication company, 'Regal Plastics'. They were able to cut out all the pieces of sheet styrene and create the large living area dome, as well as the smaller broadcast dome. These were thermoformed out of clear acrylic.

Next, I began constructing the engineering deck, then the 'office' level. I cut all the windows out, and attached the window 'strips' to the frames. Next it was on to cutting out the windows for the 'control' deck. This is where the 'unique' window is, and primarily where the show takes place. After that, the large living area deck windows had to be cut out. In order to attach the window 'strips' to the constructed decks, the angles had to be exactly 60 degrees. A little geometry work was necessary :) I then put together these two decks, and began work on the tower. After creating the supports, I had to cut a hole through the middle of each of the decks to allow the wiring through for the LEDs. I mounted the tower LEDs, and finished building the tower decks.

I'm currently working on the electronics, basically there will be 6 red 'mini' LEDs, these will go around the 'transmitter' dish and the antenna's. I will also be adding some blinking 'navigation' lights, connected to a flashing timer. Also, there will be two white 'strobe' LEDs and a blue nav light.

That is where we are today. More to come in a few weeks!
